In 2014, Ankit Tiwari collaborated with Mohit Suri for Ek Villain, where he composed and sang the song “Galliyan” for which he received two nominations in the Filmfare Awards, winning Best Male Playback Singer. He also recorded the song “O Yara” for the Pakistani film, Bin Roye. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Ankit Tiwari opens up about his admiration and influence of KK in his singing career.

Ankit Tiwari on admiration and influence of KK

Speaking about KK and how his demise affected the industry, Ankit Tiwari said, “I would like to talk about this because I feel that voice, that unique voice, left us so suddenly. It was such an untimely departure, especially when we needed them and their beautiful songs the most. If you notice, there was a time when their songs became less frequent. But even then, whenever a song came out, it would leave an indelible mark on our hearts. In my opinion, there are many great singers. Those who sing with immense emotion, including myself—but that voice is unmatched. Speaking of KK, I would say just give him four lines, and without any embellishments. He would sing them straight, effortlessly, and that alone would be perfection. And now, that voice is no longer with us.”

When asked how KK had a significant influence on him, Ankit Tiwari said, “I’ve said this many times before my first choice for “Sun Raha Hai Tu” in Aashiqui 2 was KK. I told Bhatt Sahab and everyone involved that KK would be my first pick to sing it. But sometimes, things happen as they are destined to. That was fate. I still admire his voice immensely and always will. That part of my journey is something I hold dear and will always treasure. Though he’s not with us anymore, what can we do? It is what it is.”
